Rachel Bruce Programme Director, Information Environment Rachel is responsible for JISC’s Information Environment strategy and the innovation programmes that support this. These include digital preservation, repositories, resources discovery, scholarly communication and shared infrastructure services. She oversees activity undertaken at JISC services that supports the Information Environment strategy; primarily this includes work at UKOLN at the University of Bath, EDINA at the University of Edinburgh and MIMAS at the University of Manchester. This involves working closely with the JISC Integrated Information Environment Committee (JIIE). Prior to working on JISC programmes, Rachel managed a programme of funding of £45 million that enabled UK academic libraries to make their special collections and archives available on the Web. This included the establishment of the Archives Hub service. |

Michael Crandall Chair, Masters of Science in Information
Management Program Michael Crandall is chair of a program at the University of Washington Information School focused on the management of information in all types of organizations and settings. The program blends theory and practice in the areas of management, technology and information organization to meet the needs of those responsible for effective creation, delivery, and management of information for their users. Prior to joining the University of Washington, Michael spent four years as Technology Manager for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Libraries and Public Access to Information Program. This effort deployed over 40,000 public access computers and Internet connections to over 11,000 libraries in the United States, helping libraries provide free access to computing resources and the Internet to over 95% of the American population. As part of this project, Mr. Crandall also managed the grant for development of WebJunction, a public access computing portal available to all those interested in sharing knowledge and resources on this subject. Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Crandall worked at Microsoft and Boeing. He is a member of a number of professional organizations and advisory bodies, and has authored numerous publications on knowledge management topics. |

Representing the National Library Board Singapore, the DCMI Member in Singapore: Schubert Foo Professor and Associate Dean Dr. Schubert Foo is Professor and Associate Dean, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Nanyang Technological University. He is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered IT Professional, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Fellow of the British Computer Society. He is a Board Member of the National Library Board, and an Advisor to the National Archives of Singapore Board. He has published extensively in his research areas of multimedia technology, Internet technology, multilingual information retrieval, digital libraries and knowledge management. He headed the Division of Information Studies from 1997 to 2003 that offers three Masters programmes in Information Studies, Knowledge Management and Information Systems. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom, in 1985. |

Juha Hakala Director, Information Technology Juha Hakala has been working with library automation since 1987, first in the Automation Unit of Finnish Research Libraries and since 1993 in the National Library. His involvement with Dublin Core began with the second DC workshop in Warwick, UK. Juha had a central role in making the Dublin Core a Finnish national standard (it was published as SFS 5895 in November 2001). He also was involved with the creation of a DC extension for Finnish government publications. Juha has participated in several international DC initiatives, such as the Nordic Metadata projects, as well as a number of domestic DC-related projects. In addition to metadata formats Juha is interested in identification of electronic resources. He is at present a member in the ISSN Governing board and in the working group developing ISTC, the International Standard Textual Work Code. He has also registered URN namespaces for ISBN and national bibliography numbers. |

Representing the National Library of Korea, the DCMI Affiliate in Korea: Sam Oh Professor Dr. Sam Gyun Oh is a professor at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul Korea, head of the Korea delegation for ISO/IEC JTC1 SC34 and ISO TC46. He represents the National Library of Korea at the DCMI Board of Trustees. He teaches courses such as database design, Web database design, designing XML and metadata schemas, ontology modeling, information architecture, and designing knowledge management systems. His main research interest is in the area of metadata and ontology modeling. He has extensive experience in consulting companies and government sectors regarding design of metadata and ontologies. He received his Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology from Syracuse University, NY, USA in 1995 and worked for the Information School at the University of Washington for 4 years (1994-1998) prior to taking his current post. |

John Roberts Group Manager, Archives Management John Roberts manages the Archives New Zealand group responsible for documentation systems. In this role he also oversees the New Zealand Government's Dublin Core-based discovery metadata standard. He has been involved in a range of e-government projects, especially in the areas of metadata strategy, standards and management. John has been actively involved with the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative since 2001, and co-chairs the DCMI Government Community. His information management interests include recordkeeping metadata, e-government, the impact of technology on archives and records practices, and recordkeeping legislation. He has written and spoken on these and other questions internationally. He holds a Master of Information Management and Systems from Monash University (Australia), and a Master of Arts from Victoria University (New Zealand). |

Samantha Starmer Senior Manager Over the last 11 years, Samantha Starmer has worked on a wide variety of user experience, information management and information architecture projects while at Amazon.com, SchemaLogic and Microsoft. She is currently a senior manager at REI.com, creating and incubating teams to run user experience and information management. She holds a Master's of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Washington and a certificate in Content Management. Samantha has also served on the board of Content Management Professionals and the Information Architecture Institute. |

Shigeo Sugimoto Professor, Professor Sugimoto has been actively involved in DCMI Metadata activities since 1997. He currently is co-chair of the DCMI Localization and Internationalization Community. He also co-chaired the program committee of the International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications 2001 (DC-2001) held in Tokyo, Japan, in October 2001. Dr. Sugimoto chaired the program committees of the International Symposium on Digital Libraries 1995, 1997 and 1999, which were sponsored and held at ULIS. He has been involved in major international conferences on digital libraries in Asia, Europe, and North America as an organizer and program committee member. Dr. Sugimoto earned a Ph.D. in Information Science (software engineering and programming languages) from Kyoto University in 1985. |

Michael Teets Vice President Enterprise Architecture Mike oversees the architecture of OCLC’s products and services worldwide. These services vary from primarily network available services hosted in North America to traditional ILS services in Europe. Mike is a member of the Internet2 InCommon Federation Steering Committee and is a board member of NISO. In the newly created Enterprise Architecture Office, Mike is responsible for coordinating and leading OCLC services to web scale, network available services capable of serving the entire library community. He is particularly interested in the development of data workflow and application solutions that integrate the library into a broad range of environments from consumer through academic services. |
